Following the arrival of the self-charging hybrid and diesel versions of the all-new Sorento earlier in the year, Wilsons of Rathkenny is pleased to announce prices for the new Plug-in Hybrid variants of its flagship SUV.

The new car is available with the entire trio of trim levels, with grade ‘2’ kicking things off from £44,995 ranging to the generously specified ‘3’ variant starting at £48,895 and the flagship ‘4’ edition priced from £53,095. All three versions are available to pre-order now from Wilsons of Rathkenny with the first examples set to reach our showroom early in the New Year.

The Plug-in Hybrid is the second electrified drivetrain in the Sorento line-up, sitting alongside the low-emissions Sorento Hybrid. The latest addition to the range manages to be both the most powerful and economical in the all-new Sorento line-up, blending a powerful 1.6-litre T-GDi Turbocharged Direct injection petrol engine with a high capacity 13.8kWh battery pack and high output electric motor. This allows a driver to complete an average daily commute to work purely on all-electric zero emissions power, with up to 57 kilometres* electric range or 70 kilometres* in an urban setting (WLTP). The lowest of any Sorento, emissions account for just 38g/km CO2(WLTP, weighted combined**) making the new Sorento Plug-in Hybrid attractive for business users too, who will benefit from extremely low company car Benefit-in-Kind taxation rates. Please note that these figures are provisional based on a European specification model and are for indicative purposes only. UK homologated figures will be announced in due course.

With seating for up to seven people as standard, the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is uncompromised compared to many other plug-in hybrids, thanks to the fourth-generation Sorento having been designed from the outset to accommodate electrified powertrains. The larger body and all-new platform ensure that the latest iteration of the Sorento is one of the most spacious, practical and versatile electrified models on the market today.

A technology tour-de-force, the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is packed with innovation, ranging from its newly designed six-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels in a harmonious blend of electric and petrol power, to its temperature managed water-cooled battery pack – a first for a plug-in hybrid. Inside, the generously sized 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster gets a makeover with graphics and dials showing the powertrain’s status and battery charge. From the ‘3’ grade up, the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system has additional functionality to enable drivers to more easily locate vehicle charging points while on the go.

Lane Follow Assist (LFA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) and Driver Attention Warning (DAW) all feature as standard equipment across all trim grades, along with Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DAC) and an electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold functionality. Multi-Collision Brake Assist (MCBA) is a new innovation for all-new Sorento, as is Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go functionality and E-call, which automatically summons the emergency services in the event of an accident. All this safety equipment, plus the car’s new platform saw the Sorento (including the Plug-in Hybrid) awarded a maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP.

Furthermore, thanks to clever packaging of components and fuel tank, the Plug-in Hybrid model continues to offer Sorento’s class-leading carrying capacities. Even with all seven seats in use, there’s still 175 litres of space for weekend luggage or shopping, expanding to an exceptional 809 litres with the third row of seats folded flat and the Sorento operating in five-seat mode.

Drive Mode Select allows the driver to tailor the driving experience more to their tastes, with a choice of ‘Smart’, ‘Eco’ and ‘Sport’ modes, while Terrain Mode Select incorporates three settings – ‘mud’, ‘snow’, and ‘sand’.

With the addition of the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid to the Kia line-up, Wilsons of Rathkenny now offers four different plug-in hybrid products, across a variety of different segments. Ceed Sportswagon, XCeed, Niro and now the Sorento seven-seat SUV all offer the capability of zero-emissions driving, with the flexibility of a combined plug-in hybrid and petrol powertrain.

The Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is available to pre-order now fromWilsons of Rathkenny, with production having started at Kia’s Hwasung manufacturing facility in Korea. The Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is covered by Kia’s seven-year/100,000 mile warranty, including its electric motor and battery pack offering great customer peace of mind.
